In the wake of the devastating floods that have struck the Panauti municipality & the Roshi river regions on September 2024, the urgency of support for the local population has never been greater.
The catastrophic impact of these floods has left the villagers without basic amenities, such as clean water, food, & shelter. The village infrastructures has been severely impacted, with roads, bridges, & power lines completely wiped out, leaving the community isolated & vulnerable.
Some families have already made the difficult decision to leave their beloved community due to the damage being so extensive. Despite the devastation, the village has managed to restore limited access to clean water & temporary electrical solutions. The trauma of the flood remains fresh, & fear still lingers.
To minimise the financial, physical, & emotional impact, villagers should be equipped with the necessary tools during future disaster to be better prepared & able to protect themselves & their loved ones. The most pressing issue is the lack of emergency lights. Flooding occurs often at night, electricity is cut off, leaving everybody in complete darkness , which heightens the risk of accidents & complicates evacuation movements.
This fundraising campaign aims to provide emergency lighting for the 100 homes of the Gaagle village in the Community of Tamang. Our primary goal is to install solar powered lighting systems that will ensure residents & visitors have access to light during disasters, helping them reaching safer areas & communicate with one another amidst the darkness.
This solar-powered lighting initiative marks the first major preventive step in our broader recovery efforts. This step is crucial, as it not only addresses the immediate need for light, but also restore a sense of safety & confidence within the community.
While the recovery process is still ongoing, you can help ensuring that no one feels left in the dark, as we work together to create a safer & more prepared environment for all. This project is not just about light, but also about restoring hope & humanity within our beloved community.
Our goal is to provide each of the 100 homes in the village with reliable emergency solar-powered lighting systems, strategically placed inside our outside the homes, to ensure that families can navigate quickly to the safest place & feel less terrorised, even without electricity.
Every villagers should own one portable lighting devise that an be used in case of emergency. These solar lanterns are easy to carry, rechargearble via solar energy, & can illuminate from long-distance.
We will establish emergency stations by providing emergency kits for every group of homes. These kit will contain essential supplies to support residents in case their homes are destroyed or rendered inaccessible.
This campaign is executed through the Human & Environment NGO, founded by Sashi Kanta Adhikari in 2018 & based in Kathmandu (Registration Number 628 - PAN Number 607839562).
The Human & Environment organisation has a longstanding history of working closely with vulnerable communities, making it the ideal partner for this initiative. The organisation will handle key aspects such as coordinating logistics & distribution, engaging with the community, managing resource allocation, & monitoring the effectiveness of the project to ensure long-term sustainability.
Our goal is to allocate 100 portable lights, 100 permanent emergency lighting installations, 100 emergency power banks, & 33 emergency preparedness kits (one kit for an average of three households).
Solar-powered, easy to carry & waterproof.
A comprehensive solution to ensure every home has reliable access to light when traditional power sources fail.
This reliable power source will ensure that families can charge their mobile devices to facilitate rescue & communication.
This kit is designed to provide essential support for 3 households in times of crisis such as floods & earthquakes. It included 1 tent, 2 tarps, 3 blankets, 1 water filtration system, 2 water containers, non-perishable food items, 10 reflective vests & 1 first-aid kit.
All funds collected from this campaign will be dedicated solely to the implementation of emergency lighting & the associated emergency kits for the community.
